Other than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) is the greatest killer worldwide due to a single pathogen. According to WHO figures, in 2012 alone, 8.6 million people became ill with TB and 1.3 million people died from the infection. An estimated 1.1 million of the 8.6 million people who developed TB in 2012 were HIV-positive. And TB is the leading killer of people living with HIV.
